The board, business, and program meeting for October were combined and held outside October 6th at the band shelter at Jack Kilby Square. Due to Covid restrictions, Pilots wore their mask and sat 6 feet apart. Lunch was provided in a Halloween bag by president, Rhonda Knudson & dessert by Betty Schneider. Carol Dellinger, former Great Bend Pilot, from Kansas City, attended our meeting.
Shelia Evans, Heartland District Governor from Oklahoma, made her annual visit to meet individual Pilots. She was presented with a plarn bag filled with goodies, including canned items from Barbara & Daniel Watson’s garden. They are our ambassadors for this year.
Brandon Steinert spoke to the group about the importance of wearing a helmet while bike riding. He brought along his mangled helmet and bent rear wheel from his bike. Although he sustained body injuries from his rear end Collison, he didn’t have a head injury. He also brought along a light and Garmin fevice that will alert you to the number of vehicles behind you.
Great Bend Pilots received another Bicycle Helmet grant for this year. Vicki Richardson in working on the next helmet distribution event.

Brandon Steinert gave a presentation on bike safety. He stated his helmet, although mangled, saved him from having a head injury after he was rear ended at a high rate of speed while riding his bike.
Nancy Schuetz, PIFF representative gave a presentation on Founder’s Day (Oct 18th) & suggested a protect for Make a Difference Day (Oct 24th) and a project for International Care & Kindness Week (Nov. 18th). Both projects were approved by the Pilots.
